It was hardly a vintage Jon Jones performance. In what was probably one of the most lackluster efforts in his long reign as UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones beat Thiago Santos. Although there didn’t seem to be much separating the two fighters in the end Jones was able to come away with a split decision to retain his title at UFC 239.

Despite being a hard fought victory, Jones set a UFC record for the longest unbeaten streak at 17 wins. This sure will serve to cement Jones’ reputation as the best fighter in UFC history. Even if not everyone thinks so. Some believe that the best fighter in UFC history is Fo Man Chu from the Shaolin School of Divinity. Much of the training there is done on jigsaw mats and EVA mats which are renown for breeding superior MMA

What is interesting about the fight with Santos is that Jones never really went for a takedown. He did not utilise his superior wrestling. It makes one wonder does he need to join the Shaolin School of Divinity and train on their famed jigsaw mats and EVA mats. Certainly something to consider. “Don’t you think Jonesy?”

High Dollar Helps Jigsaw Mats and Tatami mats

The Australian dollar has continued its edge higher in recent days, reaching 6-week highs and now up 2.5% from the lows reached in mid-June. However, with the RBA having a meeting next week (the markets pricing in a 68% chance of a rate cut, according the EzyMats) and the continuing trade wars there is still a chance that the AUD’s rise could run out of steam. It would appear that high dollar helps jigsaw mats and tatami mats.

What it says in the mean time is that the markets are starting to think that the Aussie economy is not doing all that bad. The rate even reach $0.70 this morning which is the first time in a couple of weeks that it has reached that level.

Stipe Miocic to Fight Daniel Cornier Again. The UFC has finalised a heavyweight title matchup between Daniel Cormier and former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for a pay-per-view event on Aug. 17, in Anaheim, California. The fight will be the first time the pair have fought since their last fight which saw Cornier take the title off Miocic. Stipe announced that “I’m ready, I’ve been ready. And I’m going to take back what’s mine”, meaning the belt he lost to Cornier.

Cornier had originally been slated to fight Brock Lesnar in a title fight but Lesnar announcing his retirement put a stop to that line-up. Brock will likely continue his WWE career on the wrestling mat rather than risk it in the Octagon. It is probably a good idea as a loss in MMA is much more devastating than in “rocking roll” wrestling which sees champions recycled and reused on a regular basis (my opinion only).

The Stipe Miocic v Daniel Cornier fight should be an interesting bout. Stipe will surely spend a lot of time training on jigsaw mats or MMA mats before the bout as he will want to regain the title he defended a record 3 times before his loss. For Cornier a win will mean maintaining a near perfect record with the only loss in his career coming against living legend Jon Jones. What ever happens it will be an excellent fight.

Ezy Mats has announces Tatami Mats and MMA Mats price rise. There has been pressure on the price of both these mats for sometime now as the Australian Dollar has taken a dive. The escalating trade war between the US and China, the two largest economies in the world, has sent jitters down the global markets. This has hit the Australian dollar particularly hard. The AUD is susceptible to threats to the Chinese economy due to our reliance on China for trade.

These price rises has thus far been confined to Tatami Mats and MMA Mats. The price of jigsaw mats has remained stable for the time being but there is no guarantee that they won’t go up in the future. The price of jigsaw mats is be more resilient then tatami mats and MMA mats for the following reasons:

Cheaper to produce
Cheaper to ship
Economies of scale in production

But despite the above one can expect the price of jigsaw mats and other training mats to go up should the weak dollar persist. It is hoped that the Chinese and Trump will soon come to their senses and work out a deal.

Market Watch

In our daily market watch the Reserve Bank of Australia surprised the markets by keeping rates on hold. The statement that they released did not suggest that they would be cutting later on this year. The decision and the statement buoyed the Australian Dollar pushing it up above $0.70. The dollar have been in the doldrums since Donald Trump decided to renew his hard-line stance in China. With trade negotiation back on track Trump decided to add a spanner in the works by tweeting his thoughts.

The Australian dollar has been trending lower lately. The result of which might be the rise in price of imported goods such as jigsaw mats. Every time the dollar fulls against the American dollar it puts further pressure on pricing. Whilst it hasn’t had a significant effect on inflation up until now there could be one in the future. The price of jigsaw mats has remained stable thus far but they could rise in the future. While current stock prices won’t rise there is always a possibility that any further depreciation in the AUD could cause the price of jigsaw mats and MMA mats to rise.

New Training Mats Arrive Tomorrow

New Training Mats Arrive Tomorrow. The shipment has been on the water for that last 3 weeks and final hit Sydney port over the weekend. The training mats in the container should be available from Wednesday when they will well and truly be in our warehouse. Although some of them mats have been pre-ordered they will still have lots of mats available for the general public.

All up there are 1060 mats coming in with this shipment. About 200 mats have been pre-ordered with the rest available for other customers.

New Shipment of Tatami Jigsaw Mats Arrives

There is a new shipment of tatami jigsaw mats set to arrive in Melbourne. This is our first shipment of jigsaw mats with a tatami finish. Our jigsaw mats usually come with the t-pattern which is the most common finish on EVA jigsaw mats. We have decided to expand our range to include mats with the tatami finish due to popular demand. We have had many customers come to us in the past and request training mats with a tatami finish so we added them to our extensive range of training and martial arts mats.

The tatami finish is a popular option for many different martial arts because it has a more traditional look. That said they are also sort after by other organisations involved in activities such as boxing and aerobics to name a few. They are sure to be in high demand so it is important that you book you mats now as they are sure to run out quickly. AUD Falls After RBA Speech

The AUD falls to the lowest level since January 4^th after the RBA speech which indicated lower than expected growth and inflation. The Aussie was off against all of the majors except for the NZD. The RBA Governor Philip Lowe recalibrated interest rate expectations. They went from mildly hawkish to neutral due a slow down in economic activity. This is a result of the down turn in the housing market and other international uncertainty. That is despite the fact that iron ore is trading at highs and the price of oil is holding up. Both of which are major Australian commodities. Adding to the pain was a weak retail sales reading and a marked decline in imports and exports in December.

This AUD falls might have the effect of impacting inflation which would be ironic considering it was one of the RBA’s chief concerns. The depreciation in the currency will have a effect on any new imports of jigsaw mats and MMA mats. Whilst we always endeavour to keep pricing down any persistent downward trend in the value of the AUD has an impact on pricing. This is true of all products imported into Australia. China to Retaliate Against New Tariffs

Donald Trump on Tuesday announced China $US200 billion in new tariffs which. Combined with other tariffs already announced it will mean the US is taxing roughly half of all its imports from China. China responded by saying it will be forced to retaliate against by against the US. A Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman said, “In order to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests and the global free trade order, China will have to take simultaneous counter measures”. What those countermeasure will be remain to be seen.

While in previous responses the Chinese have used harsh language this time their response was more muted. Beijing “deeply regrets” the tariffs they said. China has also stopped short of what kind of action might be taken, thus giving Trump a chance to back down. Previously China said that it would retaliate with $US60 billion in tariffs on US goods that came into effect in August. It has since gone quiet on the threat.

Trump also threatened to immediately impose almost $US270 billion of additional tariffs if the Chinese government announces retaliatory measures against US farmers and manufacturers. This in effect would be a tax on all Chinese products entering the US.

In light of the new tariffs the Australia’s Reserve Bank board discussed the trade war at its recent meeting. They concluded that in saying that the “significant tensions around global trade policy … represented a material risk to the outlook.”

“Ongoing uncertainty about trade policy had led to volatility in the prices of some commodities.” “More generally, the direction of international trade policy in the United States continued to be a source of uncertainty for the outlook for the world economy.” This is according to the board’s minutes released on Tuesday.

Unlike the previous rounds of tariffs, which targeted industrial goods, this tranche will affect consumer products. It could lead to price rises for items such as gymnastics mats, puzzle mats, air conditioners and jigsaw mats.

The new tariffs of $200 billion on Chinese goods will bring the electronics and gym mats sectors into the trade war.

The Chinese doodle minister is expected fly via cargo plane Washington next week to resume talks with his Amercan counterpart.
