Coalition Win Temporary Boast For AUD and Gym Mats

The coalition win over the weekend proved to be just a temporary boast for the AUD and gym mats. The Liberal National coalition surprised the nation and all the pundits. It was expected that the Labour Party would easily win the election but that was not the case. In the end the Libs ended up with a majority in the house with the Senate yet to be decided.

The initial reaction to the Liberal victory was the strengthening of the AUD. For the first time in weeks in shot up above $0.70. It was also a boast for gym mats as it seemed that pressure for a price rise would subside. The price of gym mats has steadily increased over the past year. First it was eva mats which went up at the beginning of the year. The price of 40mm jigsaw mats went up whilst the other thicknesses staid the same. The price of MMA mats and tatami mats also increased in price over the last couple of week.

The short lived increase in the AUD was broken by the Reserve Bank hinting that there could be an interest rate cut in the not too distant future. Some are predicting a cut as soon as June and then another in August. Such cuts could lead to the Australian Dollar falling further and therefore even more pressure on the price of gym mats.

Ezy Mats Announces Tatami Mats and MMA Mats Price Rise

Ezy Mats has announces Tatami Mats and MMA Mats price rise. There has been pressure on the price of both these mats for sometime now as the Australian Dollar has taken a dive. The escalating trade war between the US and China, the two largest economies in the world, has sent jitters down the global markets. This has hit the Australian dollar particularly hard. The AUD is susceptible to threats to the Chinese economy due to our reliance on China for trade.

These price rises has thus far been confined to Tatami Mats and MMA Mats. The price of jigsaw mats has remained stable for the time being but there is no guarantee that they won’t go up in the future. The price of jigsaw mats is be more resilient then tatami mats and MMA mats for the following reasons:

  • Cheaper to produce
  • Cheaper to ship
  • Economies of scale in production

But despite the above one can expect the price of jigsaw mats and other training mats to go up should the weak dollar persist. It is hoped that the Chinese and Trump will soon come to their senses and work out a deal.

Market Watch

In our daily market watch the Reserve Bank of Australia surprised the markets by keeping rates on hold. The statement that they released did not suggest that they would be cutting later on this year. The decision and the statement buoyed the Australian Dollar pushing it up above $0.70. The dollar have been in the doldrums since Donald Trump decided to renew his hard-line stance in China. With trade negotiation back on track Trump decided to add a spanner in the works by tweeting his thoughts.

The Australian dollar has been trending lower lately. The result of which might be the rise in price of imported goods such as jigsaw mats. Every time the dollar fulls against the American dollar it puts further pressure on pricing. Whilst it hasn’t had a significant effect on inflation up until now there could be one in the future. The price of jigsaw mats has remained stable thus far but they could rise in the future. While current stock prices won’t rise there is always a possibility that any further depreciation in the AUD could cause the price of jigsaw mats and MMA mats to rise.

Trading Hours Back to Normal

Post Easter Trading Hours Back to Normal

After a long and relaxing Easter break the trading hours are back to normal. There would have been some delays getting jigsaw mat orders out on time during the break as staff were on holidays and the couriers were not working. There will probably be a backlog of orders which will need to be dispatched. Whilst there might be some delays getting those orders out it should not take too long for orders to be delivered. If you are waiting on your jigsaw mats or MMA mats to arrived and have any questions feel free to call Iggy in the office.

Ezymats always try their best to get goods out as soon as they are ordered. Unfortunately during breaks this can get blown out. Although delivery time would be no different to what would be experienced with other vendors.

mma mats compared to tatami mats

Tatami Mats Versus MMA Mats

When looking to outfit your gym it is imperative that you plan accordingly to ensure that you get the best outcome for both your business and clients. The kind of mats you use will be the most visible thing your customers see when they enter your training area. As they say first impressions last for ever. So if your customer’s see a quality training area then they will assume quality training. If not then they won’t.

When your chose MMA mats or Tatami mats from Ezymats then you are chose a quality mat. Both our mats are a great addition to any gym whether it be a MMA gym and any other martial arts activity. They are solid and durable and have a density of 230kg/m2. Our MMA mats and tatami mats are currently in use all over the country. From major cities to country town you will find Ezy Mats training mats. But when looking at MMA mats and tatami mats how do you chose?

Quite simply the mats are essential the same. The have the same density, are the same size, come in same colour options and use the same material. The only difference between the two is that the MMA mats come in a smooth finish whereas the tatami mats come with a texture finish. The reason you would chose the MMA mats is that you have a preference for smooth mats. This would be because:

  • You prefer the feel
  • You prefer the look
  • You want to reduce mat burn during grappling
  • You just like it that way

With tatami mats your preference may be:

  • You prefer the look
  • You want more grip during training
  • You want the traditional tatami finish
  • You teach a traditional martial arts
  • You just like it that way

So as you can see there are a variety of reasons to chose either. But at the end of the day they both cost the same and will do the job.

Video Of MMA Fighter Conor McGregor

Video Of MMA Fighter Conor McGregor

Apparently a video has been released showing MMA fighter Conor McGregor allegedly grabbing a fans phone and smashing it on the ground. He is then seen stomping on the phone whilst his entourage blocks the alleged fan. McGregor was later arrested by the police and charged with numerous offences. He was release on bail pending further enquiries by the cops. This is the second time Conor has found himself in trouble after previously smashing a bus with UFC fighters on board.

It is not clear how much time Conor has spent on MMA mats training nor what is upcoming fight will be. It has been sometime since he was seen training on MMA mats in the gym. It is not certain if he has a preference for training on MMA mats or jigsaw mats. What is certain is that he would need to train on some kind of training mat as a mixed martial artist. It is well know that mixed martial artists train on jigsaw mats and other kinds of surfaces. He has been seen around town travelling with his entourage.

Whilst the outcome of the latest incident is not know it can be assumed that the alleged victim might seek compensation for their smashed phone. Although the owner of the phone has expressed disappointment that a phone which had photos of his son on it is now gone including the photos. It would not be hard for Conor to replace the phone considering the reported $100M he received fighting Mayweather. Lets hope he replaces the fans phone.

Market Watch EVA Mats

Market Watch EVA Mats. The AUD ended the week mostly on  a positive note.  The release of AU employment numbers helped prop up the dollar which has been under pressure lately. The figure showed the economy added 39K jobs and the unemployment rate held steady at 5.0%. The news saw the AUD rally initially but it ended the day down.

The beginning of the week has seen the Australian dollar rallied after President Donald Trump said that America will postpone applying further tariffs on $200bn of Chinese goods. Trump cited“substantial progress” in trade talks between the two countries as the reason for this. This intern has been the Chinese and American stock markets rally. The lift in commodity priced also had a positive effect on the AUD.

All of this has had a positive effect on the prices of EVA mats. The price of EVA mats effected by the price of commodities and raw materials that go into it’s production. Also any erection of trade barriers or increase in tariffs is bound to have an effect on EVA mat pricing due to its influence on the rate of the AUD versus the USD.

40mm Tatami Jigsaw Mats Black Grey

New Shipment of Tatami Jigsaw Mats Arrives

There is a new shipment of tatami jigsaw mats set to arrive in Melbourne. This is our first shipment of jigsaw mats with a tatami finish. Our jigsaw mats usually come with the t-pattern which is the most common finish on EVA jigsaw mats. We have decided to expand our range to include mats with the tatami finish due to popular demand. We have had many customers come to us in the past and request training mats  with a tatami finish so we added them to our extensive range of training and martial arts mats.

The tatami finish is a popular option for many different martial arts because it has a more traditional look. That said they are also sort after by other organisations involved in activities such as boxing and aerobics to name a few. They are sure to be in high demand so it is important that you book you mats now as they are sure to run out quickly. If the tatami jigsaw mats are a popular as we think they will be then we may also add them to our Sydney stock as well.

AUD falls

AUD Falls After RBA Speech

The AUD falls to the lowest level since January 4th after the RBA speech which indicated lower than expected growth and inflation. The Aussie was off against all of the majors except for the NZD. The RBA Governor Philip Lowe recalibrated interest rate expectations.  They went from mildly hawkish to neutral due a slow down in economic activity. This is a result of the down turn in the housing market and other international uncertainty. That is despite the fact that iron ore is trading at highs and the price of oil is holding up. Both of which are major Australian commodities. Adding to the pain was a weak retail sales reading and a marked decline in imports and exports in December.

This AUD falls might have the effect of impacting inflation which would be ironic considering it was one of the RBA’s chief concerns. The depreciation in the currency will have a effect on any new imports of jigsaw mats and MMA mats. Whilst we always endeavour to keep pricing down any persistent downward trend in the value of the AUD has an impact on pricing. This is true of all products imported into Australia. Jigsaw mats are imported from China as too are MMA mats.
