US Fed Raises Interest Rates

After much deliberation and as expected the US Fed raised interest rates by 0.25% last night. It is only the second time in 10 years that the Federal Reserve has raised interest rate. They also indicated that they would raise interest rates three more times in 2017.

AUD vs USD fell 1.8% to a two week low. The reaction was well anticipated with markets pricing in a more than 90% chance of a hike by the US Fed for more than a month now. The AUD has recovers a bit this morning and we expect it to recover further once profit taking has ceased with iron ore which dropped by 5% overnight.

What all of this means for the price of EVA mats is anyones guess. We anticipate Ezy Mats to remain the cheapest supplier of interlocking jigsaw mats due to our large turnover and superior supply chain. The effect on the general economy maybe:

Many times I have been asked by customer whether EVA mats should be used outdoor. There are heaps of outdoor activities which require some sort of protection so the question is a logical one. The short answer to the question is “maybe”.

Generally EVA mats are for indoor use only. The nature of an EVA mats is one which can absorb water as it is compressed expandable foam after all. Indeed we recommend that customers first acclimatise the mats to the area where they are going to be used to minimise movement in the mats. Being that EVA interlocking mats are made form foam they are susceptible to expansion and contraction in particular environments. As such they need to be left in the area when they are going to be used for a short period to blend into the environment. That said as the climate or weather changes one can still expect there to be an effect on the mats.

That brings us to the question of when EVA jigsaw mats can be used in the outdoors. If you are to use jigsaw mats outdoors ensure that:

  • The mats are placed on a flat surface.
  • The surface is clear of water or moisture.
  • The mats are not in direct sunlight. Preferably under cover.
  • The mats are packed away after use.

The most important point to remember is that the Interlocking EVA mats should not be in direct contact with water. While mats can handle some sweat and small drops of water they are not intended to be in contact or submerged in water.

AUD stabilised against the US dollar for the first time in two week as most commodity prices rose, led by oil. A projected OPEC supply cut led crude to a November high, up 4.3%. Our chief commodity iron ore was lower. Iron ore dropped 3.4% to $70.34 a ton as Chinese port stockpiles rose to a two year high. The forecasts for average prices of $58 this quarter and $50 in 2017.

A lower Australian dollar leads to;

The TV personality Donald Trump has been elected the next president of the USA. He handily beat Hillary Clinton to the post by taking the largest number of states in the college vote. That does mean that he won college or even that it had anything to do will Trump University rather that he won the more electorates as they are called in our electoral system.

The effect of a Trump presidency may be huge depending who you ask. The effect could be both positive or negative. One thing is certainly true is that it will be an ‘interesting’ four years.

The AUD dollar has hit a three month high against the US dollar as Hilary Clinton looks to be moving towards election victory. The USD index, a measure of the US dollar against a basket of its most traded against currencies, climbed for a second day in a row. The Japanese Yen and gold were higher and volatility was lower, a sign that safe havens are being abandoned in favour of risk on.

What are MMA Mats?

Are EVA mats and Rubber mats the same?

 

Stictly speaking rubber mats and EVA mats are not exactly the same. Although EVA jigsaw mats are often referred to as rubber mats as they have a similar finish and are both derived from synthetic rubber. EVA mats are made from EVA which is an elastomeric polymer that produces a materials which is rubber-like in softness and flexibility. EVA foam is also used as padding in equipment for various other sports and applications

Rubber mats are usually black with different colour flecks. They can also be found in other colours. Rubber mats are heavier and more dense then EVA interlocking jigsaw mats.

Rubber mats, invariably a polymer, are a type of artificial elastomer mainly synthesised from petroleum byproducts. EVA is one of the materials popularly known as expanded foam or just foam.
