30 Minutes of Exercise a Day

30 Minutes of Exercise a Day Improves Your Health

In this rat race that most of us lead it is sometimes hard to incorporate some exercise. Long days at the office and long commute can sap us from the energy we need to remain active. Whilst that may be the case it is important to incorporate some activity in to your life to stay healthy and live longer. Good health helps you maintain quality of life so it needs to be done. The good news is that it only take 30 minutes of exercise to improve your health so there are no excuses not to do so.

What doe it take to stay healthy

According to the Mayo Clinic and Dr Edward R. Laskowski there are certain guidelines that an adult should follow every day. Indeed for most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends these exercise guidelines:

  • Aerobic activity. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. The guidelines suggest that you spread out this exercise during the course of a week. To provide even greater health benefit and to assist with weight loss or maintaining weight loss, at least 300 minutes a week is recommended. But even small amounts of physical activity are helpful. Being active for short periods of time throughout the day can add up to provide health benefit.
  • Strength training. Do strength training exercises for all major muscle groups at least two times a week. Aim to do a single set of each exercise using a weight or resistance level heavy enough to tire your muscles after about 12 to 15 repetitions.

So really it doesn’t take much to adhere to those guidelines. All that is needed it a set plan and discipline to ensure that it is followed. Whilst it is easy to get distracted what is important is that you are steadfast. Recent studies have also found that all sorts of activities can have a positive effect. Things like cleaning your house and gardening also contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

How can gym mats help me stay healthy?

The thing about gym mats is that they help create an environment which is conducive to good training. Also there are all sorts of gym mats available so no matter what your activities you will find one that is suitable. Lots of people simply use yoga mats for what ever activity they are undertaking. They are of course a great choice but if you are looking at decking out a larger area then jigsaw puzzle mats might be a better option.

One of the recommendations is the need for strength training. If you are going to be doing that then you will most likely need weight. With weight training it is a good option to get some rubber mats. Rubber mats are a great way of protecting your floors whilst reducing the impact when you drop your weight. Your can either get a few to accomodate your weights only or fit out you entire training area.

Whatever you do stick to your guns

The most important thing is once you start don’t stop. Consistency is the key to any training programs. Also get some advice from a professional to ensure that what you are doing is safe. One of the most important things is to get yourself some gym mats to keep the fatigue down and you training longer. Most of all have fun!

3 Helpful Tips For Picking The Right Gym Mats

3 Helpful Tips For Picking The Right Gym Mats

How great is it to be able to get back to the gym and all the other physical activities we all miss. There is something to be said about a good training regime. Indeed it is scientifically proven that a well thought through exercise regiment can have a profound impact on ones well being. The important thing is to ensure you are comfortable during training. That is why a good gym mat is a must. Here are 3 helpful tips for picking the right gym mats for domestic or professional applications.

Finding quality gym mats is the way to go

If you have ever had to train on dodgy gym mats then you know what I mean. There are loads of purveyors of exercise gear out there and not all of them a good. We all know what it’s like to train on crappy mats. I did boxing some years ago and the EVA mats were just falling apart which made training unpleasant. They eventually changed to rubber mats which were not much better. So buying a good quality mats is crucial to a good training environment.

Choose the right mats for your application

I mentioned the rubber mats at boxing above. In that instance it wasn’t that the rubber mats were not good but that they were not appropriate for boxing training. Rubber mats are great were you are doing weights or similar such exercises. They are not that great where you have to lay on the floor and do push up and such. The black rubber will inevitable rub off on your hands and they are just not comfortable for that kind of training.

So for boxing I would have recommended they replace the EVA foam mats. The problem with the ones they had were that they were old. The foam mats had done their job and they needed replacing. If they wanted something of better quality I would have recommended our commercial rollout mats. These mats have a EVA foam underbelly but a quality vinyl surface. They are really comfortable to train on and wipe down easily. Also they connect using a velcro method which makes the flooring visually seamless.

Stick to your budget when buying mats

It is easy to get carried away when you are purchasing anything. Picking the right gym mats means you need to know what your requirements and limitations are. So whilst it might be great to have good quality tatami mats sometime jigsaw tatami mats will do the trick. The finish is the same but the material difference means that there are savings to be made. That said if you have the budget then tatami mats are a great option.

So when you are picking the right gym mats make sure you consider these great 3 points. In any case train safe and enjoy what you do. It is the best way to live.

Rollout Mats Combo vs Puzzle Mats

Rollout Mats Combo vs Puzzle Mats

There has been a lot of discussion lately going on about what the best mat for a home setup. Especially since we introduce our rollout mats combo there has been a lot of excitement but also comparisons between them and puzzle mats which is what people also rely on when setting up a home gym. Really though it is a matter of preference and a few other factors which need to be considered. When deciding rollout mats combo vs puzzle mats it really pays to check them both out.

Benefits of Rollout Mats

Where do I begin? These mats are so great it is sometime hard to know where to start. To begin with that are a very good quality mat. It is basically a heavy duty vinyl over a foam base. The construction is of the up most quality so these mats are sure to last. If you so some heavy hitting activity such as fitness or martial  arts it is a definite advantage. It is probably why people such as BJJ and MMA practitioners love our rollout combo mats so much. Even with wrestling boots they can take the punishment. So you know when you get these mats they are sure to last.

The other thing is they are easy to clean. If you do an activity where there is a lot of sweat then this is especially advantageous. You will appreciate it more if you engage in grappling where you are close to the floor and need to be able to clean up puddles quickly. That and the fact that they are easy to roll up and put away make them a fantastic choice. The two mats join together using a velcro system which make putting them in storage or making way for another activity so much easier.

Some of the benefit include:

  • Durable
  • Easy to Clean
  • Quick assembly and storage
  • Great looking
  • Comfortable to train
  • Tatami finish

Benefits of Puzzle Mats

Puzzle mats have been a mainstay of the fitness industry for decades now. They were really the first mass appeal train mat and it is not hard to understand why. Heap of organisations use them in a professional capacity which is why they are trusted by home gyms as well. Puzzle mats are a versatile product which has great appeal with fitness enthusiast and martial artist. Main suppliers stock them but now as much as Ezy Mats, who have the largest range in the country.

Again with puzzle mats the list of benefits is often too long to list but I will try. Firstly they are an highly economic option when looking at training mats. Puzzle mats are made from EVA which is an inexpensive material. What that means its that you get more bang for your buck. Whether you are decking out an area large or small the cost with be acceptable. This is especially appealing when replacing old mats because you know you are getting value for money.

There is also the issue of range. With puzzle mats you have such a huge range of colour options and thicknesses. Being spoilt for choice is a good thing in this case as it means you are better able to match the mats to your training intensity and decor. With schools this mean better aligning the mats to their brand identity. At home it means finding something suitable for your interior design goals.

The Choice is Yours

Which ever way you chose to go the choice is ultimately yours. Having such great options when it comes to setting up your home gym certainly helps.
