Martial Arts Mats for Krava Maga and BJJ

Martial Arts Mats Increasingly Popular

The proliferation of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Krava Maga and other combat sports has greatly increase the popularity of martial arts mats. With a lot of these activities there is a great likelihood of being thrown to the ground. Whats more there are drills which occur on the ground which require protection to lessen the impact.

If you look at Krava Maga, which is an Israeli self-defence system, there are lots of moves which see your partner thrown to the ground, sometimes even violently. The danger of sustaining injury through these encounters requires some kind of safety mat to mitigate the force of the through. This is where martial arts mats come in and are effective in reducing the risk of getting hurt.

With martial arts like BJJ and grappling there is a definite need for martial arts mats. You will not see a school or training area for these systems that is not fitted out with gym mats of some kind. Sometimes they are roll out mats at other times they will use foam mats or jigsaw mats. Generally they will be an interlocking mat however for a more durable mat they will often took at using tatami mats or MMA mats. One thing is for sure. They will have a martial arts mat of one kind or the other.

So if you are looking at improving the safety of your schools environment then consider a safety mat. They are often light weight and easy to more and store, and they are sure to at least reduce the risk of injury. Of course the best prevention for injury is common sense and care.

foam gymnastic mats for training gymnastics

Best Mats for Gymnastics Mats

We often get asked what kind of mats are the best mats for gymnastics. As gymnastics is a very popular sporting activity there is always a need for gymnastics mats in the general population. Gymnastics mats are important as they help minimise the impact of training. With gymnastics there is a lot of tumbling, jumping, somersaults etc which can resulting in the practitioner falling and impacting with the floor. Using anti-fatigue mats therefore is necessary for any training area.

There are a number of mats which can be helpful in such a situation. A great kind of mat for this kind of training is foam mats. Foam mats are made from compress expandable foam which has a stated hardness and density which gives it the ability to absorb impact. Usually the thicker the foam mats the better the absorptive qualities. For an activity like gymnastics it would probably be recommended to go with something thinker thick a 40mm foam mat. None the less any thickness for the foam mats would be better then no mats at all.

Puzzle mats are another name for these mats and seem to be what a lot of people know that as. Puzzle mats are also made from foam but they connect together in a puzzle formation which is where they get their recognition from. The puzzle format allows them to be connected together in a stable manner therefore forming a continuous mat. This added strength offer stability for the practitioner with the knowledge that they will not come apart during training. Puzzle mats are a great option for training gymnastics and should always be considered when choosing a mat.

Exchange rate vs USD

Market Watch – AUD vs USD in May 2017

Being a company that is so reliant on imported goods it is important for us to track currency movements. Our purchase of EVA mats and foam mats is done from off-shore companies who require payment in US dollars. In this case if the USD goes up then the price of EVA mats and foam mats also goes up. If it goes in the opposite direction then so to does the price of mats. Therefore the exchange rate is a good indicator of where the pricing of gym mats is going. Below is an analysis of the exchange rate in May.

The AUD traded in a narrow range this month against the USD. It ended down just above 1% which is not a great deal considering all the things happening in the world. Early in the month we saw the USD strengthen as the Federal Reserve pointed to a 100% chance of a rate hike in June. This expectations then eased as doubts over the strength of US inflation emerged. The rate hike chances are now considerable less at 60%. The AUD eased off later in the month after lighter consumer spending and concerns we are expecting a very weak and possibly negative growth. The start of June has seen significant support for the AUD at 0.74 and a rally towards 0.75 after good economic news from China, the worlds second largest economy.

We will continue to monitor movements in the currency to better understand where the price of EVA mats and foam mats will be in the not too distant future. If you have any questions about this or anything else then give us a call. We are always ready to talk shop.

Gymnastics Mats Explained

Interlocking Gymnastics Mats

If you’re looking for gymnastics mats for your studio or gym, here at Ezy Mats we supply a large range of interlocking gymnastics mats as well as tatami gymnastics mats which are perfect for any requirement.

Available in various thicknesses, which is determined by your needs, it is important to understand what you need before purchasing and the staff at Ezy Mats are the best place to start if you have any questions.

What is a Gymnastics Mat

Simply put, a gymnastics mat is a single mat (like our tatami mat) or a large section of mats (like the interlocking jigsaw mats) made of EVA foam which helps absorb impacts like jumping or falling. EVA foam is an expanded foam and offers plenty of support no matter which style of gymnastics you are undertaking.

Our gymnastics mats are like a jigsaw system, which means you can set up the floor how you like, interlocking each mat together. These mats are easy to pack up and store away, making them a great product whether you have a small studio or a large gym.

 Interlocking Gymnastics Mats

Ezy Mats’ gymnastics jigsaw mats have the benefit of being interlocking, which means you can connect as many mats together as you need, in the space that you have or the space that you need; they are simply referred to as jigsaw mats, as like a jigsaw puzzle, they lock into each other for stability.

Easy to assemble, easy to pack up, durable and comfortable – these are the mats you need for your gymnastics training areas.

Gymnastics Mats Thicknesses / Sizes

With three different sizes available, these gymnastics mats are suitable for a range of training purposes. Our mats come in 20mm, 30mm and 40mm thicknesses and in a size of 1m x 1m which will be able to be put together to fit in all room sizes.

How to choose your mat thickness? The 20mm mats are generally used in activities where the risk of falls and jumping is low – think warm up sessions, or children’s gymnastic classes. As you start to move up in the intensity of the gymnastics session, you will need to move up in thicknesses. The 30mm mats are great for activates where there is potential for light falls and jumping – like floor work. Our 40mm mats are then generally used for situations where falls might be more prevalent such as under bars or beams.

As the intensity in the workload increases, so to should your choice of mat thicknesses.

Gymnastics Mats Uses

The Ezy Mats gymnastics mat range is used across a large range of gymnastics training as well as in gyms. Our past customers have used the mats for floor work, aerobics, Pilates, cross-training, boot camp training and more. They are a great option for any gym. We also have vinyl tatami gymnastics mats for added support during more intense exercise or for more comfort for your Pilates or yoga session. These mats are durable and easy to clean and store.

At Ezy Mats, we aim to be the most economical supplier of interlocking gymnastics mats and tatami gymnastics mats in the Australian market. Should you find cheaper mats elsewhere, we’d love the opportunity to beat any reasonable quote for the same product.

jigsaw mats

EVA Mats – What are they?

EVA mats is just another name for interlocking floor mats. EVA mats are manufactured using Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). It is also know as poly ethylene-vinyl acetate (PEVA). EVA is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetates and is an elastomeric polymer that produces materials which are “rubber-like” in softness and flexibility.

EVA’s rubber like qualities make it ideal for EVA floor mats. Especially mats that require anti-fatigue qualities. EVA is commonly know as expandable foam hence it is also commonly know as foam mats. EVA is commonly used in a number of products but our sole application is for interlocking floor mats.

Other applications include:

  • Ski boots
  • bicycles saddles
  • boxing glove and headgear
  • fishing rods
  • other sport shoes
  • substitute for cork

So if you need a good anti-fatigue mats for your martial arts or gym training look no further than EVA interlocking jigsaw mats.

Wrestling

Wrestling is a term which is derived from the Old English word “wræstlunge“. Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws,  takedowns and other grappling techniques. There are a varied range of styles present in most cultures and civilisations of the world. Wrestling techniques are often incorporated into other martial arts and military hand-to-hand combat systems.

It the past wrestling took place either in the sand, on a field or in an arena. These days wrestling competitions take place in a sporting gymnasium or stadiums if they are larger competitions. Wrestling is also an Olympic sport and is very popular in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and North America.

Westlers usually train in a gymnastic on vinyl mats or synthetic mats. They are usually roll-out wrestling mats which are easy to install and remove. Some wrestlers train on EVA Wrestling mats as well.

Australian Dollar Jigsaw Mats

Cheaper Mats After Dollars Rise

The recent rise of the Australian Dollar has lead to a fall in the price of EVA interlocking jigsaw mats. As result Ezy Mats has chosen to pass on the saving to customers to maintain our position as the cheapest supplier of training mats in the Australian market.

Like all good imported in to Australia when the Australian dollar rises against other currencies then goods imported into Australia get cheaper. Many importers, including jigsaw mat importers, choose not to pass on the savings and instead use it to improve their bottom-line. Ezy Mats are not one of them. We always pass on all saving to our customers to maintain our leading position in the EVA jigsaw mats retail market.

The price decrease has effect all our mats including:

Market Watch EVA Interlocking Jigsaw Mats

The ASX bucked the trend yesterday following an onslaught in the US and UK stock markets in the previous session. The ASX 200 along with the Philippines Stock Exchange PSEi Index were the only indices in the Asia-Pacific region to close in the green yesterday, with the ASX 200 closing 0.18% up at 5,254.89.

US stocks and WTI Crude erased earlier losses off the back of some good US economic data. What also added weight to this rebound was that a Fed Reserve official said that the Fed should consider delaying the finish of their stimulus package considering the fundamental outlook and current market sentiment.  Treasuries fell off the back of those comments and during the trading session, whilst WTI Crude Oil fell below the US$80 a barrel mark for the first time since June 2012 before rebounding.

European Stocks had an initial sell off, but ended the session slightly down, with the FTSE down 0.25% to 6,195.91 and the EURO STOXX50 down 0.62% to close at 2,874.65.

Gold was little unchanged on the day closing at 1,239.04 USD/t oz.

The price of EVA interlocking jigsaw gym mats is expected to rise in the short-term. The cost of 30mm and 40mm jigsaw mats will remain stable due to remaining stock level from previous shipment. The cost of 20mm EVA interlocking jigsaw mats will need to rise as the new shipment was ordered during the new AUD pricing regime.

Ezymats will always endeavour to remain the most competitive supplier of EVA interlocking jigsaw mats in the market.
